All You Need To Know About Ayurveda

Ayurveda first originated in India about three thousand years ago. The word “Ayurveda” translates to knowledge of life which briefly explains the word’s purpose.

Ayurveda treatment mainly focuses on internal healing since its primary goal is promoting good health instead of using medicines to fight diseases. The therapy then steers toward yoga, a special diet, herbal medicine, and massage therapy.

A Deeper Look into Ayurveda

Those practicing Ayurveda firmly believe that every being is constituted of the following five elements found in the universe: space, water, earth, air, and fire. Their belief states that each of these combines in the human body to produce either of these doshas.

Kapha Dosha

Combining water and earth, the force is believed to control muscle growth, stability, weight gain, and the immune system. A disruption in this system can be caused by sleeping during the day, consuming sweetened food, or having things with a high level of salt and water.

Vata Dosha

Throwing space and air into the mix gives Vata dosha. Being considered the most powerful than the rest, Vata dosha controls the basic system of life, like cell division, blood flow, heart flow, etc. Things that can cause a disturbance in this dosha include fear, grieving, or eating too soon after having a meal.

Pitta Dosha

When fire and water bond, they give off the Pitta dosha. This energy is known to control your digestion, the rate of one’s metabolism, and specific hormones that are related to your gut. You can disrupt this energy by staying out in the sun too much or eating foods that are either too sour or too spicy.

Ayurvedic Treatment

Ayurvedic treatment first considers specific measures, including your physical and emotional health, your life force, and the level of balance between the three doshas in your body. The Ayurvedic practitioner then comes up with a treatment plan solely dependent on your health.

The main goal of such a treatment is to clear undigested matter in one’s gut that may lead to certain illnesses if it remains there longer. This cleansing process is known as Panchakarma, which is specially designed to decrease symptoms and restore the balance between the three elements.

Is it Reliable?

Ayurvedic treatments can positively affect one’s spiritual and physical health if conducted by a licensed practitioner. Indian practitioners are required to undergo state-recognized, institutionalized training to get hold of a license. But, before choosing such treatments, one must consult a doctor beforehand.
